About Tokyo Photoshoot

An independent comparison of the private photography sessions bookable in Tokyo — neon hours in Shibuya and Kabukicho, kimono days in Asakusa, a studio makeover, a temple-and-river walk, and one workshop where you are the one holding the camera. We compare listings, official information and recent traveller feedback. We do not operate or personally conduct these sessions, employ no photographers and hold no bookings. The sessions sit on the Tokyo photoshoot comparison, and every number on the site carries the month it was last read.

Why this site exists

Search for a photographer in Tokyo and the first answers are a concierge service quoting from $325 for thirty minutes, an Instagram profile, and a platform listing grid with no way to compare it. The same hour with a local photographer books from $35 on the mainstream platforms — but the listings are hard to read against each other. One guarantees the gallery inside 48 hours; another takes a week. One keeps your photos in the cloud for thirty days and then deletes them. The cheapest listing of all includes no photographer: it is a kimono rental where the shoot is a separate line at checkout.

Putting those differences next to the price is the entire job of this site.

Where the facts come from

Session prices, lengths, ratings, review counts and inclusions are read off each operator's own listing on the date shown on the page, in US dollars. Listings checked: August 2026. Last price check: August 2026.

Location rules — the permission Omoide Yokocho's management requires before any photography, the no-photo signs and association approval in Golden Gai, the ban on commercial photography inside Shinjuku Gyoen, and Shibuya ward's year-round street-drinking ordinance in force since 1 October 2024 — are checked against official sources and news reporting, and dated where they appear. Climate figures come from the Japan Meteorological Agency's 1991–2020 normals for Tokyo. Traveller feedback reviewed: more than 400 verified reviews across the listed sessions.

What we do not do

We do not take photographs, sell sessions, process payments, or handle rescheduling and refunds — the booking platform and the operator named on your confirmation do all of that. We have never claimed to have walked a session ourselves; where the site describes how a shoot unfolds, that description is assembled from the operator's listing and dated traveller reviews.

How the site pays for itself

Booking links on this site are affiliate links. If you book through one, the platform pays this site a commission at no extra cost to you. The commission is identical across the sessions we list, so it gives us no reason to rank one photographer above another — the ordering and the verdicts come from the listings' own numbers.

The full policy is on the affiliate disclosure page.

Corrections

If a price has moved, a session has changed its inclusions, or a rule has been updated since our last check, tell us and we will re-verify against the listing and correct the page.
